Louisville's Best Pasta

Louisville's Best Pasta

I have a confession: I’ve eaten my body weight in noodles this month, and I regret nothing. Louisville’s pasta game is a glorious mess of contradictions, from the white-tablecloth polish of Cipollini’s truffle gnocchi to the counter-service genius of Pasta Garage, where the tagliatelle tastes like a nonna’s secret.

I’ve chased the perfect bucatini down Bardstown Road and found a fettuccine Alfredo that demands a return visit. Consider this your permission slip to carb-load.

Here’s where to get saucy.

Toasted ravioli wins hearts
Pesto gnocchi is a must
Baked manicotti, zero leftovers
Giant meatball, incredible flavor
Fettuccine Alfredo keeps calling

Ciao Ristorante is where I go when I need carbs to fix my soul. The toasted ravioli landed first, crisp and golden, with a filling that practically melted. I moved on to the pesto gnocchi, which was pillowy and coated in a bright, nutty sauce. The baked manicotti had that cheesy, homey appeal you crave, and the giant meatball was outrageously good, savory and tender. But the fettuccine Alfredo? It kept calling my name long after the plate was clean. I'll be back for that creamy, comforting bowl of noodles.

Top-tier sandwich service

Lotsa Pasta is the perfect stop for a casual Sunday lunch. I ordered the turkey goat cheese panini, which was a delightful combo of savory turkey, creamy tangy goat cheese, and crisp bread. The Great Lakes chips were a crunchy, salty bonus, and the Greek pasta salad was a refreshing, tangy side. The service was fast and friendly, making it easy to pop in and out. That kind of top-tier sandwich service is hard to find, and I appreciate that they treated my simple order like it mattered. I left satisfied and already planning my next visit.

Chicken parm: huge, tasty serving
Light yet filling chicken picatta

Italian Punch loved by wife
Worth a second visit

Palermo's Italian Restaurant serves portions that would make a nonna proud. The chicken parm was huge, a massive cutlet that hung off the plate, and it was delicious, with a crispy crust and a robust marinara. The chicken picatta was lighter but still filling, with a bright, lemony caper sauce that cut through the richness. Prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get, which always earns high marks in my book. The Italian Punch was a hit with my wife, fruity and potent. This place is absolutely worth a second visit.

Paseo is where you go for a fantastic Sunday feast. The paella was a glorious spread of saffron rice, plump shrimp, and tender chorizo, enough for two. The duck confit was melt-off-the-bone tender, with crispy skin. The rainbow trout was fresh and bright, zipped up with a citrusy note. And the fries, thick-cut and crispy, were impossible to stop eating. The brown butter brownie was a decadent, nutty send-off. Every dish delivered on flavor and texture, making this spot an easy repeat for me.

Steakhouse Bourré Bonne lives up to the name. The steak was, without question, the best in Louisville, cooked to a perfect medium-rare with a deeply caramelized crust. The croissant loaf that arrived as a starter was flaky, buttery, and frankly, beautiful. The cocktails were well-crafted and inventive, and the staff, especially the server, gave excellent recommendations that elevated the whole experience. For a special celebration, this is the place. It's an investment, but worth every cent for the quality and the service.

The rice is well-seasoned, and portions are generous, so you never leave hungry. The bartender handled a small mix-up with grace and a smile, turning a potential negative into a positive. Cipollini is a gem for a special date night. The handmade truffle gnocchi were little pillows of potato and truffle, rich and luxurious. The arancini appetizer was a crispy, cheesy bite that set the tone. And the bucatini in a slow-cooked sauce was perfection, with a hint of that classic, old-school Italian flavor. The espresso martini was the right note to finish. It's the kind of place that feels intimate and polished, and the food matches that vibe. I left planning my next excuse to return.

Volare Italian Ristorante delivered the best pasta I've ever had, no exaggeration. The pappardelle Boscaiola featured wide ribbons of pasta with a rich, woodsy mushroom sauce and bacon that practically dissolved on the tongue. My dining partner's lasagne was equally impressive, layered with a slow-simmered ragù and silky béchamel. We finished with tiramisu, which was a perfect, coffee-soaked end. The service was warm, the patio was cozy, and the entire evening felt like a genuine treat.
